Premium Solar, Battery & EV Systems for Surrey and South West London

Every system we design is built around your property’s electrical infrastructure, consumption profile and long-term energy goals - not a generic template. From initial load assessment to final commissioning, solar, battery and EV charging are engineered as one integrated solution.

Integrated Solar, Battery & EV Systems - Backed by Specialist Electrical Engineering

electricalworks by GThink Ltd is a specialist integrated energy engineering practice serving premium homes across Surrey and South West London. We design solar, battery storage and EV charging as a single coherent system - sized around your consumption profile, roof geometry, electrical infrastructure and long-term energy objectives. The electrical engineering foundation - consumer unit capacity, supply cable rating, load calculations, and protection coordination - is assessed and resolved before a single component is ordered. That discipline is what distinguishes a properly engineered system from a product simply bolted onto an unprepared installation.

Engineer and client handshake

One Standard of Engineering. Applied to Every System We Commission.

Solar, battery and EV systems are only as reliable as the electrical infrastructure beneath them. Every system we commission is assessed, designed and installed to a consistent engineering standard - from the DNO application and consumer unit assessment through to inverter commissioning and system handover. We carry out half-hourly consumption profiling before any component is specified, and verify performance after installation is complete. The result is a system that is correctly sized, properly protected, and built to perform for the long term.

Integrated Solar, Battery & EV: One Design, One Load Calculation, One Standard

When solar, battery and EV charging are co-designed from the start, the result is a system where each element reinforces the others. The inverter is sized for the combined generation and storage requirement. The consumer unit is assessed for the full connected load. The EV charger is configured to draw on surplus solar before falling back to stored or grid energy. Specifying these systems together removes the infrastructure compromises that arise when they are added sequentially, and typically produces a more efficient installation overall.

Electrical Infrastructure: The Foundation Every Energy System Depends On

A solar and battery system is only as reliable as the electrical installation it connects to. Consumer unit capacity, supply cable rating, earthing arrangements and protection coordination must all be assessed before any energy hardware is specified. Our electrical engineering expertise - rewiring, three-phase distribution, Hager and Schneider fuse gear, BS 7671 compliance - means we resolve the infrastructure requirements as part of the system design, not as an afterthought.

Why Electrical Infrastructure Matters for Solar, Battery & EV Systems

A solar or battery system connects directly into your property’s electrical installation. If the consumer unit, supply cable or earthing arrangement is not assessed and sized correctly for the combined load - solar inverter output, battery charge and discharge currents, and EV charging demand - the result can be nuisance tripping, protection failures, or systems that simply cannot operate at their rated capacity. Getting this right at the design stage is straightforward when you have the electrical engineering expertise to do it properly.

Tier-1 Hardware, Correctly Specified

We specify solar panels, inverters, batteries and EV chargers from manufacturers with independently verified performance and warranty records. The quality of the hardware matters. So does the quality of the electrical components - cabling, terminations, Hager and Schneider distribution equipment - that connect it all together.

Meet the Vision Behind the Wiring

Founded by Georgi Tangarov, a master electrician with two decades of hands-on experience, electricalworks has grown from a premium electrical contracting practice into a specialist integrated energy engineering business. Every project we undertake today - whether a Tier-1 solar array on a Weybridge estate or a smart battery retrofit in a Wandsworth townhouse - reflects the same engineering philosophy that has defined this practice from its founding: specify precisely, install flawlessly, and remain accountable indefinitely.

Greater Energy Control. Lower Grid Reliance. Zero Compromise on Aesthetics.

A correctly sized and integrated solar, battery and EV system changes your relationship with energy costs in a meaningful way. The solar array generates throughout the day. The battery stores what is not immediately consumed. The EV charger draws on that stored energy before using the grid. Performance, savings and payback depend on system design, property usage, tariff structure and future energy prices - factors we assess and model before any system is specified, so the outcome is grounded in your property’s own numbers rather than a generic projection.

Energy Guidance: What to Consider Before You Invest

Your Consumer Unit Is the Foundation of Your Energy Ecosystem

Consumer unit with RCBO protection and spare ways

A solar and battery system introduces significant new electrical loads. Before any energy hardware is specified, your consumer unit must be assessed for spare ways, RCBO capacity, and surge protection compatibility. An undersized or outdated consumer unit is one of the most common causes of integration problems in retrofit installations. Resolving this before installation begins avoids delays and additional costs later.

Battery Arbitrage: How to Save While Your Home Sleeps

Smart lighting scene in a contemporary living room

On Octopus Agile or Go tariffs, a home battery can be programmed to charge at sub-5p/kWh overnight and discharge during 30p+ peak periods. Without solar, this alone can deliver material bill savings. With solar, the battery is also filled by free daytime generation - an effect that can strengthen the case for battery storage over time, though actual savings depend on tariff structure and usage patterns.

Certification and Warranty: What to Check Before You Commit

Installation warranty and certification documents

Most Tier-1 solar panel, inverter and battery manufacturers require installation by a qualified and registered installer to validate their product warranties. An installation that does not meet those requirements may affect your eligibility for export tariffs and manufacturer warranty coverage simultaneously. Before committing to any system, confirm that the installer can provide the relevant certification and warranty documentation in your name on completion.

How We Work

Every system begins with a structured assessment, not assumptions. Here is how we take a property from initial consultation to a fully commissioned and documented energy installation.

1. Site Analysis & Financial Modelling

Smart Meter half-hourly data, roof geometry, DNO export limits, and tariff structure are combined into a site-specific savings forecast before any component is specified or any commitment is made.

  • Half-hourly consumption profiling included
  • Full financial modelling provided before commitment

2. Integrated System Design & Installation

Solar, battery, EV and consumer unit are co-designed as one system, with a single DNO application covering the combined load. Installation follows the agreed design with consistent oversight from start to finish.

  • Single DNO application covers the full combined load
  • All electrical work compliant with BS 7671

3. Certification & DNO Notification

System commissioning, DNO notification, and relevant certification and warranty documentation are handled as part of the installation programme and issued in your name on completion.

  • All documentation issued on completion
  • SEG registration handled on your behalf

4. Lifetime Asset Management

Annual yield-versus-forecast reviews, inverter firmware updates, system diagnostics, and tariff guidance as available products evolve - keeping your installation performing to specification throughout its working life.

Frequently Asked Questions: Solar, Battery & EV Systems

Can I install solar panels and battery storage together as one project?
Yes, and it is generally the more efficient approach. When solar and battery are co-designed, the inverter, supply cable and consumer unit are all sized for the combined load in one calculation. This avoids the need for separate applications and reduces the risk of undersized infrastructure. A single DNO notification can cover both systems where applicable.
What financial return should I expect from a solar and battery system?
Returns vary depending on consumption profile, roof orientation, system size and tariff choice. A site-specific financial model based on your actual Smart Meter data is the most reliable indicator. We provide this modelling before any commitment is made, so you can assess the case on your own property’s numbers rather than industry averages.
Can I add battery storage without solar panels first?
Yes. A battery charged on time-of-use tariffs overnight can deliver meaningful bill savings without solar. When solar is added later, the same battery captures surplus daytime generation. We design battery systems to be compatible with future solar from the outset, so your initial investment scales cleanly.
Does my consumer unit need assessing before solar or battery storage?
It should always be assessed before any energy hardware is specified. Solar, battery and EV charging each introduce new load requirements. The consumer unit capacity, supply cable rating and earthing arrangement need to be checked against the combined demand. In older properties an upgrade may be required to accommodate the combined load safely and in compliance with current wiring regulations.
How does solar-linked EV charging work?
A solar-compatible smart charger monitors generation in real time and adjusts its charge rate to match available surplus from your array. This means your vehicle charges primarily on energy your property has already generated. The charger reverts to standard grid supply when surplus is insufficient, so the vehicle is always ready when needed.
Why does co-designing solar, battery and EV together produce better results than buying them separately?
When all three are designed together, the electrical infrastructure - supply capacity, consumer unit, cabling routes - is sized correctly for the full eventual load. Separate installations often result in systems that cannot communicate for smart tariff scheduling and may require additional infrastructure work later. A single integrated design programme is also typically more cost-efficient in installation time and associated costs.
Does 0% VAT apply to home battery storage in the UK?
Since October 2023, battery storage systems installed in UK residential properties qualify for 0% VAT, regardless of whether solar panels are installed at the same time. This applies to the supply and installation of the system and is reflected in the quoted price at the outset.
Do I need planning permission for solar panels on my Surrey property?
Most residential solar installations qualify as Permitted Development and do not require planning consent, provided the panels do not protrude more than 200mm beyond the roof plane and the property is not in a Conservation Area or Listed. Where Permitted Development does not apply, a planning assessment should be carried out before installation proceeds.
How is the electrical infrastructure assessed before a solar or battery installation?
A proper assessment covers the consumer unit capacity, available spare ways, supply cable rating, earthing and bonding arrangement, and any load management requirements the new system introduces. This determines whether the existing installation can support the planned equipment safely, and whether any electrical upgrades are needed before or alongside the main installation work.
Can I fund a complete solar, battery and EV system through green finance?
Yes. Integrated energy programmes can be structured through green finance products available from FCA-regulated lenders. All finance arrangements are subject to status and FCA-regulated pre-contractual documentation.
